Ozigi Joshua B.Sc; MSc; MBIM; MNIM; MIoD; FCCA; FCA; FCIT; D.Lit.(Honoris Causa)

Born on 9th February 1954, in Okene, Kogi State, OMUYA, Ozigi Joshua obtained his First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) from the then St. Andrew’s School Okene, in 1967 as the Best Student in the school and later obtained the West African School Certificate (WASC) with Division One Distinction, from the then Government Secondary School, Okene in 1972 and the Higher School Certificate (HSC) also with Distinction, from Offa Grammar School in 1974.

He bagged a B.Sc.; Degree in Accounting with First Class Honors from Ahmadu Bello University, (ABU) Zaria, in 1977. In 1980, he bagged an MSc; Degree in Accounting and Finance from the same University and thereby being amongst the first set to obtain such a master’s degree from any Nigerian University.

Chief (Dr) J.O. Omuya is a Fellow (FCA; FCCA; FCTI) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (ACCA) in the United Kingdom and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN). He also holds the Membership Certificates of the Nigeria and British Institutes of Management (MNIM; & MBIM), the Nigerian Institute of Management Consultants (MNIMC) and of the Institute of Directors (MIoD) amongst others.

Chief (Dr) J.O. Omuya has to his credit over 40 years of working experience that cuts across University Lecturing, Consultancy, Manufacturing, Banking, Professional Accountancy Practice, Real Estate Development and Hotel services. He was a Lecturer in Accounting at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria from 1978 to 1984, a Senior Consultant with Phoenix Investment Services Ltd Kaduna, from 1984 to 1988 under the tutelage of the highly revered Dr Hamza Rafindadi Zayyad of blessed memory. It was during this period that he was seconded to Gaskiya Textile Mills Ltd, Kano as the Assistant General Manager, Finance. Between 1988 and 1991, he was the Assistant General Manager, Finance and Planning with Bank of the North Ltd, Kano. He was in Savannah Bank of Nigeria Plc between 1991 and 1996 and rose to the rank of Deputy General Manager, in charge of Finance and Domestic Treasury. After his disengagement from Savannah Bank, he went to set up some private business ventures amongst which are: AFIMS Properties Ltd; AFIMS HOTELS Limited; United Hali Na Gari BDC Ltd; etc. Between 2006 and 2017 he served as the National Director of Finance at the national headquarters of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja where he carried out strict professional duties until he voluntarily retired in December 2017.

He carried out many National Assignments with the then Technical Committee for Privatization and Commercialization (TCPC), now Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE) between 1988 and 1996 and served on the Interim Management Board of Nigeria Merchant Bank PLC between 1995 and 1996. He was the Chief Examiner for ‘A’ Level Accounting, for the West African Examination Council (WAEC) from 1979 to 1986. He was a Member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from November 2005 to June 2013 during which period, he served on several of the Bank’s Board Committees, as well as being the Chairman of the Audit and Risk Management Committee of the Apex Bank. He has been a Partner in the Firm of UHY Maaji & Co; (Chartered Accountants) since 2003 to date. He was appointed the Board Chairman of Regency Assets Management Ltd; (a Stock Broking company based in Lagos) in 2018. He was recently appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of PointOne Micro Finance Bank Ltd.  He has served and/or still serves on the Boards of many national and internationally acclaimed Companies and Trustees.

Chief (Dr) JO Omuya who was conferred with the title, “Fiwajoye the First of St. Andrew’s Church (now Cathedral) in 1993, served as Honorary Auditor to the Diocese of Okene, Anglican Communion, from 2010 to 2018, Joint Auditor to the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion from 2015 to September 2020, and the Diocese of Abuja, Anglican Communion from 2008 to 2023. He also served on the Governing Council of the Board of the Bishop Crowther College of Theology (BCCT) Okene, between 2007 and 2020.

Chief Omuya has presented numerous papers at many public fora and has travelled to the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Germany, France, India, Malaysia, Brazil, South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, etc. He is the author of the famous and widely acclaimed West African Edition of “Frank Wood’s Business Accounting Volumes 1 and 2” and three other textbooks in Financial Accounting that are widely used in secondary and tertiary institutions, and through which he has positively impacted on the lives of several people in the private and public sectors. He was honored with the degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) Honoris Causa by the Kogi State University, Anyigba, at its maiden convocation ceremony in March 2005. He is also the recipient of scores of other Awards from the Church and other organizations for his selfless, honest, and dedicated services to the Church and humanity.

A quiet and unassuming philanthropist, Chief (Dr) JO Omuya has positively touched the lives of many brilliant but financially challenged students, through scholarship awards, financial assistance to widows, orphans and the needy since 1978, and through the Chief JO Omuya Foundation established in 2014 to mark his 60th birthday anniversary. An indefatigable, humble, trustworthy, and diligent gentleman, Chief (Dr) J.O. Omuya is a renowned Professional Chartered Accountant, whose fame and popularity extend beyond the shores of Nigeria. He is happily married with children, most of who are now pursuing their various callings in and outside the country.
