Dr. Akor Sule Yunusa was born on 5th June, 1959 and he is from Ankpa, in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State. He attended St. Charles College, Ankpa and graduated in 1977. He proceeded to the United States of America where he acquired an Associate Degree in Agric Production/Business in 1979 from Garden City Community College, Garden City, Kansas. After his graduation, he was awarded a Certificate of Achievement Award in December 1979 by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) at Washington D.C. He further proceeded to obtained a Bachelor Degree in Agricultural Economics in 1982 and a Master Degree in Economics in 1984 both from Oklahoma State University, USA. Thereafter, he returned to Nigeria in 1984 to serve in National Youths Service Corps (NYSC). He later acquired his Ph.D Degree in Agricultural Economics in 2011 from the University of Agriculture Makurdi in Benue State, Nigeria.
Dr. Akor served NYSC with Kano-Hadeija Jama’are River Basin Development Authority in 1984/85 at Hadeija in the old Kano State before the creation of Jigawa State out of it. He started his working carrier in January 1986 with Lobi Bank of Nigeria Limited as Agric Supervisor at the Bank’s Headquarters in Makurdi, Benue State. He resigned from Lobi Bank in June 1987 to join Savannah Bank of Nigeria PLC in Lagos in July 1987 as Agric Credit Officer at Broad Street Branch in Lagos Island. He was later transferred to served at Kaduna Branch of the Bank before been transferred again to serve as Senior Credit Officer at Kano Ado Bayero street Branch. From there he moved to serve as Head of Credit at Kano Lagos Street Branch. He further served as Head of Credit/Marketing in Kano North Area Office on Lagos Street in Kano. At the same time, he also served as Secretary to Debt Recovery Committee at Kano North Area Office. He was made a Branch Manager at Beirut Road Branch in Kano between 1996 to 1998. He was again transferred to Makurdi Branch in Benue State in 2001 where he served as Head of Debt Recovery Unit being the last position he held until February 2002 when CBN closed down the Bank. While at Savannah Bank, he attended a total of twenty four (24) trainings, and workshops across Nigeria. He served the Bank diligently and received several commendations and awards from the management of the Bank such as a Commendation letter for performance in a Credit course in 1988, a Certificate of loyalty award to Savannah Bank in 1992, Commendation letter for the re-engineering and re-focusing of Savannah Bank in 1997, Commendation letter for contributing to the growth of Savannah Bank in 2000 and a Distinguished Merit Award for Excellence in Banking Ethical Standard in 2001 by the Institute of Industrialist & Corporate Administrators.
He then moved on to work with a Government Parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Transport, that is, National Inland Waterways Authority at Lokoja Headquarters in August, 2005. He joined the Authority as Senior Manager (Research). He served as Area Manager at Igbokoda Area Office of the Authority in Okitipupa in Ondo State between September 2008 and October 2010. Again, he was later transferred to serve as Area Manager at Makurdi Area Office of the Authority in Benue State between October 2010 and 2014. He rose to the rank of a Deputy General Manager (Research) which was the position he held until his retirement from Public Service on 5th June, 2019. While in the service of the Authority, he attended ten (10) relevant trainings and workshops across Nigeria and four (4) foreign trainings and workshops at Dubai in United Arab Emirates, Odessa in Ukraine, Capetown in South Africa and Paris in France.
Currently, Dr. Akor is into Poultry farming and supply of Coal to local Manufacturing companies in Nigeria.
